So, we've been getting quite a bit of questions about diabetic foot care, neuropathy, dietary services, diabetic shoes. So, I wanted to kind of come on and go over a little bit about all of that. I did podiatric care for roughly 11 years when I first started as a medical assistant.
I am a big advocate for diabetics having a podiatrist in their life. how myself and the other advocates can help with this. A lot of times when you go on the insurance websites to search for a provider so we can help take that off of you going through making those phone calls, you know, and then contacting you, giving you a list of, okay, Dr.
X, Y, and Z, if you need help getting an appointment arranged, either call on your behalf, call with you, get you set up with that appointment. If you need help getting transportation to that appointment and you have a service, we can help you get that arranged or if you need to find one, we can help look for local transportation in your area as well.
You need to get in with a podiatrist or a wound care center. A lot of wound care centers have a podiatrist. Making sure that your sugars are under control if you need to see a dietitian or a nutritionist.
So, it's just getting you in touch with those resources. Your podiatrist may say that they're not it's not covered. Yes, it is. They can work around it. That way we can help you making sure that you're getting the right care because you don't want those areas to turn into an open wound and then you're going to go through a whole other process.
Being diabetic, you are eligible for diabetic shoes and inserts. These are a covered service under Medicare, but how we can help is we can check your benefits, seeing what's covered.
So, typically every calendar year, Medicare will cover one pair of shoes and three pairs of inserts. So, what these shoes are designed to do is they're made a little bit what we call extra depth. The reason behind that is to accommodate the insert your foot and any like socks or stockings, you know, that sort or compression devices.
So, that way your foot is fitting properly in the shoe and not rubbing and you're not going to get a callous or a blister from wearing ill-fitting shoes. So, again, how our advocates can help with this, making sure that you know your podiatry office does this.
If not, getting you with an in-et network company that does
