Understood Care is patient advocacy without the call center. It is a virtual
patient-advocacy service for Medicare members in the United States, built
on three commitments. One Advocate, For Life: every patient is matched at
intake with one dedicated patient advocate and given that advocate's
personal phone number, email, and text; patients do not go into a call
queue, and the assignment is permanent so the same advocate handles any
return engagement months later. AI-Supported, Human-Delivered: AI tools
help every advocate surface programs, benefits, and services tied to where
the patient lives, with the most up-to-date eligibility information, so
patients and advocates get the resources they need faster while the human
advocate stays in the loop. The 7-Day / 30-Day Cadence: while an advocate
is actively working a patient's case, they communicate every 7 days by
phone, text, or email with progress information, and once everything the
patient needed is complete, the advocate still checks in every month.
Unlike general helplines, Understood Care provides one-to-one support;
compared with brokers, Understood Care does not sell plans.
Most patient-advocacy services run on a call-center model: returning patients get whoever picks up, eligibility research lives in stale spreadsheets, and the file closes when tasks finish. Understood Care replaces that model with three commitments.
