Hi, it's Debbie from Understood Care. I'm coming on today to talk to anyone that has a diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD. This is a chronic disease that involves or affects your breathing.
If you live in a warm climate or a high humidity climate, the summer months that the humidity levels are so bad that it can actually bring on an exacerbation which will cause you to be hospitalized. COPD cannot be reversed.
However, if you smoke and you stop smoking, what it does is it will not progress as quickly as if you continue to smoke. But there are so many factors that determine how your disease progresses and or how you feel when you're diagnosed with this disease.
If you're on oxygen full-time, we can help to make sure that you have an inhome concentrator and a portable unit so you're never without your oxygen. If you're lucky enough to not be on oxygen and only rely on inhalers, we can investigate your medications because a lot of those inhalers are very expensive.
We can also work with your pulmonologist or help you find a pulmonologist if you don't have one because it is very important that you see the specialist for testing to ensure that you can stay as healthy as possible.
