I wanted to come and talk to you about something that kind of hits me personally. We have a friend pretty much that I consider family and they lost a son years ago to be musculardrophe. He was diagnosed at 10 years old and it changed everyone's lives completely.
I call him my hero. I call them my heroes because they always did what they could to ensure that he lived a normal life and was able to participate in normal activities and literally it changed their lives forever when he was diagnosed and then it changed their lives forever when he passed.
Muscular disty affects 1 in 50 million girls and 1 in 5600 to 7,000 males from the age of 5 to 24. It is a degenerative disease that there is no door and it doesn't just affect the patient. Unfortunately, the patient sometimes goes through such severe pain and they lose their independence.
They lose so many things as it progresses. But it affects family. It affects caregivers, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, everybody.
If you're a parent or if you're an adult suffering from musculardrophe, if you don't have a support system, we can be that for you. We can help you. We can be a helping hand. We can help to get make sure you have the equipment that you need to be comfortable.
The beds, the chairs, the cushions, the breathing assistance. There's so much that patients that suffer from muscular dy need and it can be overwhelming.
