We get a lot of requests for financial assistance and I wanted to come on and kind of explain a little bit about what that means. Being on fixed incomes, okay, which a lot of our seniors today are and with the rising cost of utilities, food, rent, water, gas.

A lot of people find themselves unable to afford their monthly expenses. What we do here at Understood Care, we ask you what your monthly income is, whether it be SSI, pensions, things like that. And then there are various federal, state, county programs that offer assistance to seniors for utilities, rent, cell phones, food, things like that.

Because we don't want people to have to make a choice on do I pay my electric bill or do I go grocery shopping? Do I go grocery shopping or do I get my medication? Every person in this country should never have to make that choice.

What your patient advocate would do is search through the federal, state, county, city, whatever the resources are available in your area and we work with you to complete applications. We verify your eligibility for these programs based on your income and the guidelines set.

We help the application get the documentation that's needed to verify your eligibility and then we help you get it submitted. We are bound by the same rules that you are. But what we do at Understood care is we help you through the process so it's not so overwhelming.

We stay on the phone. We gather all the pertinent information prior to recommending a program.
